About
Welcome to my blog, which is dedicated to the development of my program Modellers Assistant. I’d like to share some of my background with you.
I worked for a public corporation in the UK for 17 years starting off with clerical duties before working as a mainframe operator for a number of years. I moved from an operator to mainframe programming for a few years before being moved into PC work.
After a short while I was responsible for installing LANs and learnt about servers, networks, and desktops. I wrote a security package for the LAN as there was nothing on the market at the time. After some reshuffles in the company I was moved to technical support for both mainframe and PC LAN/Server.
Finally I was into a dedicated PC team and not only managed servers, LANs, and desktops but also introduce the Internet, firewalls, proxy servers, TCP/IP and a number of bespoke systems.
After 17 years I left the company to pursue my own path. I started by running a craft business with my girlfriend. The business closed after 3 years as the market had disappeared. I became a home maker and looked after my girlfriends kids and our own baby boy.
When our boy started school I decided it was time to start some work again. We decided to start a new company that allowed my girlfriend to start a photography business whilst I pursued a career in digital art and graphic design.
Being a keen plastic kit modeller I decided to write a program to help provide information to the modeller for paint equivelants between manufacturers. This was released in 2005 under the name of Painters Assistant. I was working on the next version to Painters Assistant in 2006 when we decided to start our own company Bit-G, development work was put on hold for a while whilst the company was started.
Early in 2006 I married my girlfriend and we will soon be celebrating our 1st anniversary.
Late in 2006 I picked up Painters Assistant again whilst the business is in a quiet period. I decided to rewrite much of the program and renamed it to Modellers Assistant. Now that things are upto date the blog takes over on the development progress.
